Rewiring a house isn't the simplest of jobs
Rewiring a house isn’t the simplest of jobs, it requires specific skills and training. We would therefore always advise you to leave it to a professional electrician.
At Nightingale Electrical, we provide a full rewiring service to homeowners, covering everything from initial survey to the safe installation of new wiring. We carry out both full and partial rewires – this can range from simple rewiring of lighting/sockets, all the way to rewiring the entire property. A typical rewire involves two stages of work; stage 1 is the first fix and stage 2 is the second fix.

First fix
The first fix often involves disconnecting all the older cabling, lifting floorboards/carpet and drilling all our cable channels through the joists in the property. Once this is complete, we begin to run the new cabling from the consumer unit out to each switch, socket, light etc.
We have the equipment to chase and secure cables within walls, then place them within conduit ready for the Plasterers to complete the job.
For circumstances where walls will be ‘dot and dabbed’ after cables have been run, we will fix cables onto the walls within conduit and leave them in a safe state for plasterboard to be fixed to the wall.

Second fix
Once the Plasterers have completed work with the chases and the walls are dry, we will then proceed with the second fix. Following completion, we terminate and dress all cabling into sockets, switches, lights etc. ready to be inspected, tested and certified.
If after the first fix you need to be left with a full electrical supply, this needs to be made clear during the planning stages of the project. We can in fact second fix at the first fix stage, but this includes added material and labour costs which therefore, would have to be planned ahead.
